Which one should you buy? Read on to find out how these two cameras compare with respect to their body size, their imaging sensors, their shooting features, their input-output connections, and their reception by expert reviewers. The physical size and weight of the Canon D and the Canon 80D are illustrated in the side-by-side display below. The two cameras are presented according to their relative size.

Three consecutive perspectives from the front, the top, and the back are available. All width, height and depth dimensions are rounded to the nearest millimeter.

If the front view area width x height of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Canon 80D is notably larger 11 percent than the Canon D. It is noteworthy in this context that the 80D is splash and dust-proofwhile the D does not feature any corresponding weather-sealing.

The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete since they do not consider the interchangeable lenses that both of these cameras require.

In this particular case, both cameras feature the same lens mount, so that they can use the same lenses. The adjacent table lists the principal physical characteristics of the two cameras alongside a wider set of alternatives. If you want to switch the focus of the display and review another camera pair, just select a new right or left comparator from among the camera models in the table.

Alternatively, you can also move across to the CAM-parator tool and choose from the broad selection of possible camera comparisons there. Any camera decision will naturally be influenced heavily by the price. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The D was launched at a markedly lower price by 38 percent than the 80D, which puts it into a different market segment.

Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.

The size of the sensor inside a digital camera is one of the key determinants of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic rangeand richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Furthermore, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more possibilities to use shallow depth-of-field in order to isolate a subject from the background.

On the downside, larger sensors tend to be associated with larger, more expensive camera bodies and lenses. Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensorbut their sensors differ slightly in size. The sensor area in the 80D is 2 percent bigger. They nevertheless have the same format factor of 1. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio sensor width to sensor height of Even though the 80D has a slightly larger sensor, both cameras offer the same resolution of 24 megapixels.

This implies that the 80D has a lower pixel density and marginally larger individual pixels with a pixel pitch of 3. It should, however, be noted that the D is a somewhat more recent model by 11 months than the 80D, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time that at least partly compensate for the smaller pixel size.

SinceDXO Mark has published sensor performance measurements that have been derived using a consistent methodology. The table below summarizes the physical sensor characteristics and sensor quality findings and compares them across a set of similar cameras. Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies.I am looking at getting a new camera and these two cameras mentioned above are the two I am deciding between.

I'm not too familiar with either brand but I do want to get into photography more. I am somewhat familiar with DSLR's and want a camera that will last quite awhile.

I feel once I pick one I will be in that eco system.

Are there lenses equally comparable? Is there big difference between the two other than the Canon having the second screen? I have read quite a bit about the two companies and I like the idea of not having an anti aliasing filter that the Nikon's don't have.

I'd love your help and feedback between these two. For still photographers, we feel the Nikon Z5 represents the best value for the money when it comes to full-frame mirrorless cameras. Which is why it receives our top award. The Sony ZV-1 was designed specifically for vloggers, but this compact camera is an excellent option for still photographers too.

We got our hands on the brand new Instax SQ1: an easy-to-use instant camera that shoots square format film. Despite a couple of quirks, we think it's a camera that photographers and non-photographers alike will find fun to use.

Sony's a7C is among the smallest full-frame mirrorless cameras you can buy, and in terms of core capability, not much has been sacrificed for the sake of compactness. But are you ready to make it your next go-to travel camera? Find out how it stacks up in our initial review.

It includes updates to Panasonic's DFD autofocus system, creative photo modes, and video features that come close to matching the more expensive S1H. Nikon D Flip-out screens can be useful for tricky shots. The device is protected with extra seals to prevent failures caused by dust, raindrops, and water splashes.

We consider a lower weight better because lighter devices are more comfortable to carry. A lower weight is also an advantage for home appliances, as it makes transportation easier, and for many other types of products.

With less than full coverage, you may have to crop your photos afterward to get them looking perfect. An optical viewfinder or OVF allows the photographer to compose a shot while seeing exactly what the lens will capture. OVFs have no time lag and require no power - as opposed to electronic viewfinders, which can drain battery life. OVFs are also better in low light situations. Has a hot shoe. A hot shoe can be used to attach an external flash, as well as light meters, viewfinders, rangefinders and other attachments.

Optics 1. The larger the sensor the more light the sensor captures yielding in better image quality. The more focus points the more flexibility in picking which part of the scene to focus on. They also give the image sensor a better probability in identifying the right area of the scene to focus on in more automatic modes. The number of megapixels determines the resolution of the images captured with the main camera.

A higher megapixel count means that the camera is capable of capturing more details. However, the megapixel count is not the only important element determining the quality of an image. With a higher light sensitivity ISO levelthe sensor absorbs more light.

This can be used to capture moving objects using a fast shutter speed, or to take images in low light without using a flash. Fast continuous shooting is useful for catching action shots. With AF tracking, once you choose the subject and press the shutter release part way down, as the subject moves, the autofocus will follow it.

No more out of focus shots.I am a happy Olympus user, but considering to buy a second body DSLR just for trying different systems. Since the beginning I considered the D still now a bit!

I would love to have a feedback from you, especially from who owns or already tried the Nikon D or the Canon 77D my second choice! Personally, I'd get another Olympus for a second body so you can share lenses. The main advantage to Canon is live-view AF, but if you mainly use the eye-viewfinder, then that doesn't matter as much.

If you can afford it, you might as well get a full frame camera and lens to have something really different from your M43 system. Yes, the rational choice would be Olympus, but the new DSLR like is too expensive and the mak I E-m1 is too old and too equal to my current one so hard to justify. If you are shooting and processing RAW images you should be able to appreciate the difference in image quality with a larger sensor.

In truth you can download sample raw images and compare them in PS for free! That often sates my camera lust. Whether a larger sensor makes any real difference given how most of us use our images is up to you and your bank account.

If you have not personally experienced the heftitude of full frame compared to Olympus m43 you are in for a surprise--I own both. You can read the sensor tests on this website which, along with real world prices, favor Nikon over Canon but really its the classic Toyota vs Honda debate. In terms of user experience I do not see a great advantage for you in mirrorless APS but that is another option. The other surprise might be what it is like to look through a good lens via a good optical viewfinder--regardless of camera heft you may not want to go back to an electronic viewfinder.

The difference can seem like looking though a window compared to looking at a small television monitor. Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yesterday I saw the Nikonit would provide me pics with higher resolution but it is definitely too big. I will buy a Sigma or Tamron, which cover both Nikon and Canon. In case you really want one big sensor camera and one fast lens look at the Sony A7 with FE35 f2. That's a good point Mike. I remember that for some time I considered that option, considering it is almost a year I shot using a Zuiko 17 35 lens.

But apart from everything, it is a nice option. For still photographers, we feel the Nikon Z5 represents the best value for the money when it comes to full-frame mirrorless cameras. Which is why it receives our top award. The Sony ZV-1 was designed specifically for vloggers, but this compact camera is an excellent option for still photographers too.
